Employment Opportunity at Albright Memorial Library

There is a part-time Library Clerk front-desk position available in the Adult Circulation Department of the Albright Memorial Library. Must have strong customer service skills, enjoy people and work well with all ages. As needed, this position is used to fill schedules in other departments, including the Bookmobile, Nancy Kay Holmes Branch and Library Express.

Flexibility in availability is essential. The schedule includes days, nights and weekends. The weekly schedule is approximately 20-25 hours.

The primary responsibility is working at the Adult Circulation Desk/Readers’ Service. This desk is the Library’s primary service point for library patrons – so excellent customer service skills in this busy environment are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Checking library materials in and out.
  • Register patrons for Library cards.
  • Answer and route incoming telephone calls.
  • Sort, inspect, and shelve returned materials.
  • Assist patrons looking for library materials in person or on the phone.
  • Assist patrons using the Online Catalog.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

  • Familiarity with and use of computers is essential.
  • Must be flexible, able to multi-task, and enjoy a steady to fast pace environment.
  • Ability to serve patrons in a calm and friendly manner.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Valid PA Driver’s License.
  • High school diploma or GED, college degree/library experience preferred, but not required.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

  • Physical ability to stand or sit for several hours.
  • Lift up to 25lbs, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, and push carts loaded with books.
  • Physical and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to listen and clearly communicate with patrons in person and on the telephone.

Successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to cheerfully respond to patron requests, to work cooperatively in a team environment, to be flexible as the demands of the job change, and to handle the fast-pace of telephone and in-person interactions.  Upon hiring, child abuse and criminal background checks will be conducted in accordance with state law.

Benefits include:

  • Starting Hourly Rate: $13.72-$14.40
  • Up to 5% TIAA-CREF match on retirement contributions.
