Celebrate International Read to Me Day

Tuesday, March 19  /  Everywhere

Here’s a day you can celebrate easily: All you need is a child and a book. It’s good for the child and good for you, too.

International Read to Me Day is observed in recognition of the role that reading to children plays in their ultimate literacy.

Studies show that children of 4-5 years old who are read to 3-4 times a week have reading ages 6 months ahead of children read to just once or twice a week. Reading to children every day almost doubles their progress to one year ahead of the group.

And it’s reading for pleasure that seems to have the greatest impact.

So, grab a book, grab a child and sit down and read together, not just on March 19, but every day.
