“Valley of the Dolls” To Screen Wednesday, May 15th at 6:30 PM

“Sure, I take dolls ’cause I gotta get some sleep.  I gotta get up at 5 o’clock in the morning and SPARKLE, NEELY, SPARKLE!”  Neely O’Hara (Patty Duke)

“How many times do I have to tell you?  At night, all cats are gray.” Miriam Polar (Lee Grant)

“Broadway doesn’t go for boooooooze and dope.” Helen Lawson (Susan Hayward)

“TONY!” Jennifer North (Sharon Tate)

May’s Classic Movie Night will feature the 1967 so-bad-it’s-good cult classic Valley of the Dolls, starring Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, and Susan Hayward.   The screening is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th at 6:30 PM in the Henkelman Room, located on the second floor of Scranton Public Library.

Admission is free with your library card.

A lush but unintentionally hilarious film adaptation of Jacqueline Susann’s bestselling novel, Valley of the Dolls tells the story of three ambitious, beautiful women (Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke and Sharon Tate)  whose rise to fame and fortune is complicated by their addictions to pills (“dolls”).

The film will screen at 6:30 PM, but early birds will be treated to vintage entertainment starting at 6 PM.

Light refreshments such as popcorn, soda and M&Ms for “dolls,” will be served.
