Take a class for free!

Learn about how to attend free courses from major universities! 

Colleges and universities across the country provide online courses on popular subjects for free! Learn how to create iPhone apps, learn about ancient Greek history, refresh your knowledge of the human anatomy and physiology or take an English class for fun!

It’s a great opportunity to learn more about a subject that interests you from the comfort of your home! Some classes are self-paced and you can move through the material at your own schedule.  Other classes are on a schedule that mimics real course schedules.

Here is a sampling of what you can expect:

Coursera.org provides courses from 110 colleges and universities worldwide with the option to have a certificate of completion.  Why not try Child Nutrition and Cooking 2.0 from Stanford University or An Introduction to Financial Accounting from University of Pennsylvania.

 

  edX.org collaborates with several colleges and universities worldwide to provide free course material.  Upcoming classes include The Science of Happiness from US BerkeleyX, Introducation to Computer Science from HarvardX The Civil War and Reconstruction- 1850-1861 from ColumbiaX and more!

 

 Opening Learning Initiative at Carnegie Mellon University provides both learning and teaching opportunities.  You can try out courses on topics like Introduction to Biology or Logics & Proofs.

 

Open Yale Courses provide full set of class lectures via video along with course material like suggested readings, syllabi and exams.  Try an English on Modern Poetry or The American Novel Since 1945.

 

You can also try out free learning websites like:

 

 Khan Academy is a website that provides free courses on wide range of topics from Computer Programming, Math, Science, Economics and many more!  For example learn about Printmaking from The Museum of Modern Art or Music Basics: Notes and Rhythm from the All Star Orchestra and more!

 

 Code Cademy has a free software and programming classes to help you learn to code in HTML, Python, Ruby and more!
