Creative Writing with Carol King @ Abington Community Library

CreativeWritingThis course is designed to guide students in creative writing through experience in three genres: short story, poetry, and creative non-fiction. The course includes instruction with examples of various types of writing, exercises, and class discussion of the work produced. Once the introductory sessions are completed, students may continue working in the genre that most appeals to them. There will also be some discussion about what is involved in publication.

Carol King has taught courses in English and Creative Writing at local colleges for over 30 years. She has a master’s degree in creative writing and has also published a book of poetry. For Adults.

Memoir & Genealogy with Carol King @ Abington Community Library

This class is designed to enable students to transition from the research they have done or will do into their family’s history to creating works of fiction or nonfiction based on that research. Students will look at examples of this type of writing and will learn how to apply the techniques necessary to produce their own works.

Cursive Club Session 2 @ Abington Community Library
Mar 29 @ 4:15 pm – 5:00 pm

Join us for a six-week course on cursive writing as a continuation of the introductory session. All materials will be provided. Learn the second half of the alphabet and practice your handwriting. Attendance of the first session is not a prerequisite, but be advised we will only be covering letters M-Z. Runs weekly from March 15 – April 19. For Grades K-2. Please register; limited to 20 children.

Families Helping Families is an organization providing support for families with a member in the early stages of recovery for drug or alcohol addiction. Co-sponsored by Clearbrook Foundation. For Grades 7 – Adult.

We offer:

Education about the key concepts of addiction and recovery;

Connections with other families and individuals who have struggled with addiction;

Guest speakers and partners including community leaders like Dr. Mike Mahon, Superintendent of Abington Schools; Dr. A. C. Patel; Lackawanna County Court Judge Michael Barrasse, and U.S. 3rd Circuit Judge Thomas Vanaskie.

A proactive and cooperative effort with community leaders to keep our families safe and healthy.

The Junior Achievement BizTown® experience gives homeschooled students the opportunity to run banks, manage restaurants, read utility meters, write checks, and even vote as they experience JA BizTown®, Junior Achievement’s Elementary School Capstone Program. Facilitated by Lea Arnold and Ariana Brutico. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a concluding day-long visit on April 10 (time TBA) to the JA World® facility near Wilkes-Barre, a fully interactive, true-to-life simulation where students learn the fundamental relationship between academics and life beyond school. This class runs weekly until April 6. Pleae register.
