Amy Sedaris To Headline Library Lecture Series

Amy Sedaris, the actress, author and comedian, will bring her unique style of comedy to town on Wednesday, July 9, as a guest of the Lackawanna County Library System’s Matthew F. Flynn Library Lecture Series.

She will appear at 7 p.m. at Scranton Cultural Center.

Sedaris is best known for her roles in movies like “Maid In Manhattan” and as the voice of Cinderella in the “Shrek” films and for guest appearances on television series and late night talk shows.

Fans of Sedaris may know her primarily from her appearances on such late night television programs as the “Late Show with David Letterman”, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, “The Daily Show”, “The Colbert Report”, and “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”.

A busy actress since her career began in early 1990s, she has had roles in 35 movies and 33 television programs.

Sedaris has also achieved success as a writer with her books I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence and Simple Times: Crafts For Poor People, both of which are best selling humor titles.

In 2003 she teamed up with Colbert and writer Paul Dinello to create Wigfield: The Can Do Town That Just May Not. The book has been described as “razor sharp satire by three major talents.”

With her brother, author David Sedaris, she has co-written six plays.

A native of Endicott, New York, Sedaris grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Amy Sedaris joining us for a Library Lecture,” said Mary Garm, library system administrator. “Her humor is just the right thing for a summer audience.”

Funding for the Lecture Series is provided by the Lackawanna County Office of Arts and Culture. It is part of the art, literature and performance collaboration of the Lackawanna County Library System, the Scranton Cultural Center and the Everhart Museum.

Tickets for the event are free and can be obtained at any Lackawanna County Library System library or the Scranton Cultural Center box office.
