National Book Awards Long Lists Released

Winners to Be Announced on Nov. 14

Since 1950, the National Book Awards have been honoring the best books published in this country, including works written in other languages, translated into English and available to American readers. The objective, according to the National Book Foundation, presenter of the awards, “is to celebrate the best literature in America, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in American culture.”

Nominees for the 2018 awards represent the broad range of diversity, thought and talent writing today. There are ten books in each of five categories: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, young people’s literature and translated literature.
