National Library Week starts on Sunday and once again this year all around the country, libraries will be celebrated as vibrant centers of their communities, schools and college campuses.

The theme for National Library Week 2019 is Libraries = Strong Communities, a national advocacy effort to build public awareness about the value of libraries and to create support for them at the local, state, and national levels.

First observed in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA).

Residents of Lackawanna County are asked to use the week to reflect on how fortunate they are to have a Library System comprising seven community libraries with 10 locations that are trusted and treasured institutions in our County, and where librarians and library staff members work to ensure that everyone who enters understands what their privileges are.

Lackawanna County libraries are open to all who seek information and access to technologies, especially as our society is at a critical juncture regarding a changing information landscape and the skills needed to thrive in a digital world.
