Lackawanna County Readers Respond to Trend

eBooks and audiobooks are growing in popularity in Lackawanna County as a 15 percent increase in the Library System’s circulation of the electronic formats in 2019 shows.

Increases were seen in both number of users and number of titles downloaded from OverDrive, one of the Library System’s eBook and audiobook suppliers.

More than 60,000 titles were circulated to more than 15,000 borrowers during the year. 2019 also saw more than 1,000 new users signing up to use OverDrive.

The proliferation of mobile devices like smart phones and tablets mean that more people now have the technology they need to use the service. And WIFI available in more locations means that readers can access eBooks and audiobooks from almost anywhere.
