Novel Thoughts for September: “New Kid” by Jerry Craft

Novel Thoughts! Our September selection is the graphic novel, “New Kid” by Jerry Craft. This 2020 Newbery Medal and 2020 Coretta Scott King Book award winner is a timely and honest graphic novel about starting over at a new school where diversity is low and the struggle to fit in is real. Seventh-grader Jordan Banks is sent to a prestigious new school where is he one of the few kids of color. Jordan struggles with trying to fit in while keeping his neighborhood friends and staying true to himself. Checkout this video of “New Kid!”  Novel Thoughts is open to students in grades 3 through 6. Register and pickup a free copy of the book. 10 copies available. This Zoom program is open to all Lackawanna County students.

Novel Thoughts begins Wednesday, September 16, and continues on  September  23 and 30 from 3:30-4:15 PM on Zoom. Registration is required. Call the Children’s Library for more info and to register. 570-348-5000 ext. 3015.
