Celebrating Juneteenth

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally-celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. We are celebrating at the Abington Community Library with a themed book display, resource-sharing, and virtual programming.

Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19, so check out our two Facebook pages (“Abington Community Library” and “Abington Community Library for Kids“) for these programs on that day:

10:30AM Children’s Storytime

3:30 PM Adult Book Talk

6 PM Teen Book Talk

Check out these resources:

“How to Talk to Kids About Juneteenth” (University of Pittsburgh)

“The Historical Legacy of Juneteenth” (National Museum of African American History & Culture)
