Pennsylvania’s Namesake & The Indigenous People

Delve into the history of William Penn and his relationship with the Native American’s of Pennsylvania this month. Pennsylvania’s namesake chartered treaties with the local Delaware Tribe. Penn was one of the few leaders who tried to set an example with fair and honest treaties. Penn negotiated for this land with Delaware Councilor Tamanend. Tamanend was, “an ancient Delaware chief, who never had his equal. He was in the highest degree endowed with wisdom, virtue, prudence, charity, affability, meekness, hospitality.”
