New Fruits & Roots Community Fridge Opening Aug. 12th

We are excited to announce that Lackawanna County’s first community fridge is set to open on Saturday, August 12th at the Valley Community Library at 739 River Street, Peckville, PA 18452. There will be a short ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 12th at 2:15, followed by the End of SummerQuest Party at the Library, featuring rock painting, blowing bubbles, chalk drawings, dancing, and treats from the Fidelity Ice Cream Truck.

Fruits & Roots Community Fridge is focused on supporting neighbors that are food insecure by providing supplemental access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This focus on providing nutritious, fresh food alternatives will serve as an addition to the shelf-stable items found at local pantries.
Members in the community will have continual access to the outdoor fridge at the Library, an aspect of the community fridge project that helps to eliminate the stigma around food insecurity.
Fruits & Roots is a 100% volunteer-run organization. Anyone in the community is welcome to give as much as they are able and take as much as they need. Anyone interested in volunteering or donating to the fridge can contact fruitsandrootscf@gmail.com or reach out via Facebook or Instagram at @fruitsandrootscf
