Event Details

Designed to engage children in grades 3-6, Novel Thoughts introduces a variety of literature and involves children in activities that coincide with each session provided. We carefully select from classic stories, fables, popular series, graphic novels, and comics. Children benefit from the literary experience as well as the interactive participation incorporated into each session.

This fall, Ms. Aubrey will be talking about a few great books!

“The Unteachables” by Gordon Korman

Tuesdays, September 6th and 13th at 5 PM

“The Unteachables never thought they’d find a teacher who had a worse attitude than they did. And Mr. Kermit never thought he would actually care about teaching again. Over the course of a school year, though, room 117 will experience mayhem, destruction—and maybe even a shot at redemption.” – Goodreads

“El Deafo” by Cece Bell

Tuesdays, October 4th and 11th at 5 PM

“At the age of four, we see her being diagnosed as deaf, following a bout of meningitis. Cece starts school, bringing all sorts of new experiences. Along with the challenges facing any first-grader, such as negotiating the confusing rules of friendship, she is also the only deaf child in school and must learn to understand other people’s reactions and attitudes.” Booktrust

“The Seventh Most Important Thing” by Shelley Pearsall

Tuesdays, November 1st and 15th at 5 PM

“The story of how a random act of violence brings together an angry, thirteen-year-old boy and a reclusive “Junk Man” in his neighborhood. When the teenager is sentenced to work for the man he injured, he begins to unravel the Junk Man’s surprising secrets. Readers will be uplifted by this powerful tale of friendship, loss, art, and redemption. Can art transform lives? Find out.” – Shelley Pearsall
