Join the Library Lecture Society & Keep Speakers Coming
Robert Kanigel’s lecture about Scranton native Jane Jacobs, the woman who changed the way Americans think about their cities, closed one of the most successful years for the Matthew F. Flynn Library Lecture Series with almost 3,000 people attending the four events.
Getting to hear a biographer like Robert Kanigel, a historian like Douglas Brinkley, and bestselling novelists like Piper Kerman and Rainbow Rowell, the 2016 speakers, is one of the benefits of living in Lackawanna County.
Since 2005, the Lackawanna County Library System has presented an outstanding roster of speakers including author, journalist and film maker Sebastian Junger, author, actress, social critic and humorist Fran Lebowitz, theoretical physicist and futurist Michio Kaku, undersea explorer and Titanic discoverer Robert Ballard, historians David McCullough, Michael Beschloss and James McPherson, and athlete Emmitt Smith, to name just some.
You can help keep this tradition strong by joining the Library Lecture Society. Membership entitles you to advance notice of coming speakers, an invitation to pre-lecture receptions and an opportunity to meet the speaker.
