Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. The celebration provides a great opportunity to learn more about the diversity of the Hispanic population of the United States, which was estimated to be about 62 million Americans during the 2020 census.

One simple descriptor cannot capture the the spirit and cultures of people from such different backgrounds: from the present-day Southwestern United States, to the southernmost tip of South America, many islands in the Caribbean, and any one of the 22 nations and territories that comprise Latin America. These people all describe themselves differently, and this is why you may see the terms Latina, Latino, Latinx, latine, Hispanic, Chicano or Chicana, Tejano or Tejana, Afro-Latino or Afro-Latina, boricua, and many others used depending on a person’s heritage and background.
