Insulin Pump Support Group

August 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Are you using or thinking of using an insulin pump to manage your diabetes? Talk with diabetics who know. Join insulin pump users with/without a sensor in a group setting to share and talk about your experiences. The group is open to children, parents, and senior citizens who are presently using a pump or are considering it. Meeting at the library and on Zoom.

Every Type 1 diabetic has a story to tell about when they were diagnosed, dealing with all the changes it brought to their lives, doubts about their future, dealing with multiple daily injections and finger sticks to monitor their blood glucose levels, fears of going low, limitations of foods they could eat with a special meal plan and on and on and on. Few share their stories but not Corey Iyoob.

A recent graduate of Marywood University, he chose to tell his story for his senor project through his YouTube short film titled Play by Play. His months of collecting, editing and photographing resulted in an amazing video of professional quality. The video clearly tells his story of being diagnosed at the age of nine and how he overcame and learned to handle his Type 1 diabetes. From the time Corey Iyoob was a youngster he was enthralled with sports broadcasting and imitated famous broadcasters constantly. When he was diagnosed at the age of nine with Type 1 diabetes, he thought his dreams of becoming a broadcaster were over. The video tells how getting an insulin pump a year after his diagnosis made his dream a possibility again and how he has managed his diabetes for thirteen years with the pump and a sensor. Corey tells his personal experience as a Type 1 diabetic since childhood through his uniquely created YouTube video.

Corey will share his story and video at The Insulin Pump Support Group meeting on August 21st at 6:00 PM at the Abington Community Library. Monthly meetings are free and open to the public and are held on the third Thursday of each month. Plan to come and hear an enthusiastic speaker with his YouTube Video.
