Celebrate Hispanic & Latino Culture During Hispanic Heritage Month
September 23, 2025
The period between September 15 and October 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. Latinas and Latinos make up roughly 20% of our country’s population with more than 65 million people identifying as Hispanic or Latino. These individuals comprise one of the largest demographic groups in the country, and their contributions are wide and important. From workers’ rights to gender equality to science and technology, Hispanic Americans have contributed greatly to the fabric of our nation. We encourage you to take some time during this observance to learn about the rich history and culture of Latinas and Latinos.
The difficulty of capturing the Latino experience in just a few words can be challenging. These Americans have cultural ties to Central America, South America, the Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands, and even unique communities inside the bounds of the United States. Regardless of heritage or origin, these individuals are an essential part of our American identity; their contributions have enriched the arts, pushed for social change, and shaped the ideals of our country.
We invite you explore an array of voices and stories that honor the varied, vibrant experience of the Hispanic community. Our Libraries welcome everyone, and we hope you see yourself represented.
