May 1, 2026
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI Heritage Month)– a celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders that recognizes their historical and cultural contributions in the United States.
Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders have contributed significantly to many facets of American culture and society, including science and medicine, literature and art, sports and recreation, government and politics, and activism and law.
AAPI Heritage Month originated with Congress in 1977. It was originally celebrated the first 10 days in May, but in 1992, it expanded to the entire month of May. Learn more about the history and celebration of AAPI Heritage Month here.
