National Book Awards Announced

The 2018 National Book Awards were announced last week during a ceremony in New York City and for 2018, books that reflect the diversity of America won in several categories.
Sigrid Nunez won fiction award for The Friend, and Jeffrey C. Stewart for The New Negro: The Life of Alain Locke, a biography of the first African American Rhodes scholar.
The winner in the young people’s literature category was Elizabeth Acevedo for her novel, The Poet X, and the poetry prize went to Justin Phillip Reed for his collection Indecency.
2018 was the first year for a translated literature award. It was shared by Japanese author Yoko Tawada and translator Margaret Mitsutani for The Emissary.
Chilean-American novelist Isabel Allende was presented a lifetime achievement award.
