The Abington Community Library will present Tasting by the Book on Saturday, October 24 from 7-9PM. Pick up your tickets for $25 at the Library and attend this signature event to taste delicious food prepared by generous, local Community Cooks and bid on your favorite items to enjoy at a later date. Proceeds will fund installation of a retractable awning on our side lawn.

Carol Rubel, co-chair of the event, shared some of her thoughts on this unique fundraiser:

What are the cooks most excited about? Community Cooks seem most excited about the chance to share their special talent in a way that will benefit the Library. Their selection of offerings reflects their heritage (i.e. ethnic choices), family history (expect some treasured family heirloom recipes to  be making an appearance) or specific interest (Yes, there will be vegetarian offerings and healthy offerings as well as decadent ones!).

Do you hope to make this an annual event? We hope this will be a “signature event” for the Library and that it will become as much a part of the fall season as apple cider and candy corn!

Do you think this event might spin off to smaller events throughout the year? While we have not created smaller events to hold after this one, it is possible that we may sponsor some discussions about the magical place that kitchen memories have in our collective consciousness and how families, individuals and cultures share their history in meaningful ways when they gather around a common table.
