Academic OneFile for College Undergrads

Academic OneFile for College Undergrads

September 14, 2018

You’re sitting in your college class and see the first research essay on the syllabus. Now what? Where do you turn?

For college undergrads, Academic OneFile provides reliable, critical academic publications on a range of subjects and hot topics to help you research and formulate your essays.

As part of Gale, Academic OneFile looks very similar to the Gale Virtual Reference Library. You can still save, highlight, make notes, and find citation information for the publications you use for your research. What makes Academic OneFile different from the Virtual Reference Library is the content.

The Virtual Reference Library should be used more as an encyclopedia to look up terms which may be unfamiliar. Once you do this, you then turn to Academic OneFile to find research on your topic that has been reviewed and verified by other colleges and committees, making them academic publications.

Academic publications are articles or essays published in magazines and journals, usually written by college professors, professionals receiving their doctorates, and highly specialized people in their fields.

When you visit Academic OneFile‘s main page, you’ll see the option of starting your search by nine disciplines: Biology, Chemistry, Criminal Science, Economics,  Environmental Science, History, Marketing, Political Science, and Psychology.

If you already know what topic or subject you are researching, you can type that in the Search Box to start viewing articles.

Academic OneFile is FREE to use with your Lackawanna County LS library card. Visit lclshome.org/find to create your free account on Academic OneFile.
