Author to Discuss and Sign Copies of Book on NEPA Music History Saturday, July 9th

July 6, 2022

The Albright Memorial Library will host a presentation and book signing recognizing the biography, Somebody Else’s Dream: Dakota, The Buoys, & “Timothy.” Rock journalist Maxim W. Furek will conduct the event on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at the Albright Memorial Library, 500 Vine Street, Scranton, PA 18509.

Furek’s book celebrates the 50th anniversary of the song “Timothy,” Lackawanna County’s most controversial song, that paralleled real-life events during the 1963 Sheppton mining disaster. Written by Broadway playwright Rupert Holmes, “Timothy” was banned by numerous radio stations but became a massive international hit by The Buoys.

Somebody Else’s Dream depicts a cautionary tale of substance abuse, the pitfalls of fame, and the actual price of the rock and roll fantasy.

Furek also wrote Sheppton: The Myth, Miracle, & Music, which explored paranormal events during the Sheppton mining disaster.

The program is free and open to the public. For information, contact Bill Cronauer at (570) 348-3000 X 3016 or visit www.albright.org.

You may preregister if you are planning to attend Mr. Furek’s lecture before the book signing; the book signing itself will begin immediately after, until 4 PM.
