Edible Book Day
April 1, 2025
Eat your words this April 1st for Edible Book Day! Also known as the Edible Book Festival, this event is celebrated around the world where “edible books” are created, displayed, and eaten. It commemorates Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin who wrote The Physiology of Taste which includes his observations and reflections on the craft and science of cookery and the art of eating. Although the author was technically born on April 2nd, the event is celebrated on April Fool’s Day for its whimsical nature.
Of course, we would rather you NOT visit your library and start chowing down on our beloved books. However, we encourage you to try a new recipe or style of cooking with the Library System’s many cookbooks! Whether you wish to try a new diet, a recipe from the other side of the world, or even start your own garden, the Library System has something for you. The Lackawanna Digital Archive for the Scranton Public Library’s has a collection of digital local community cookbooks available to browse online. Finally, don’t forget to check your local libraries to see what tasty programs they are offering from Cookbook Clubs, Cooking Demonstrations, Lunch and Learns, and Valley’s Books Appetit!
