“Ladies of the White House” Quilt Fundraiser
January 18, 2018
During these cold winter months, it seems like there is nothing to do but curl up with a good book and a warm blanket.
Hark! The “Always in Stitches” quilting group who regularly meet at the Abington Community Library has generously and kindly donated a “Ladies of the White House” quilt as a fundraiser for the Library. The quilt features blocks inspired by the noble First Ladies of the White House. Such ladies include: Martha Washington, Lucy Hayes, Frances Cleveland, Dolley Payne Todd Madison, Anna Harrison, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Mary Todd Lincoln. The background of the quilt is adapted from a quilt created in the 1800s.
Beginning in February, the “Ladies of the White House” quilt will be on display and raffle tickets available for purchase. The price will be: $2 each or 3 for $5. All money will directly benefit the Library and be used for programming. This quilt would be perfect for history buffs, fabric connoisseurs, quilt aficionados, book lovers, and anyone in-between. The work(wo)manship on it is exquisite and is the perfect addition to a cold bed or cozy corner.
Tickets may be purchased at the Circulation Desk beginning February 1st. For more information and to get a better look at this historic wonder, stop into the Library or give us a call. A huge thanks to the “Always in Stitches” group for their kind generosity and Molly Farinola for leading the group through this presidential project.
