March is National Craft Month
February 28, 2026
A craft is defined as an activity that involves skill in making things – typically with your hands. Some examples are knitting and crocheting, scrapbooking, leatherworking, wood burning, fly tying, jewelry making, anything created by hand that has an artistic aspect to it but may not fit the definition of “fine art.” Crafting can nourish the mind and body and brings joy to those who make the crafts and to those who receive them.
National Craft Month, created by the Craft and Hobby Association to help people learn about the benefits of crafting, is the perfect time to explore your artistic side, learn new skills, and connect with others who share your love of crafting.
Check out your library’s collection where you can find books featuring adult crafts, kid’s crafts, and holiday crafts. Libraries in the Lackawanna County Library System are a great place to learn a new craft or brush up on an old skill. You can also check out our online resource Craft & Hobby for free tutorials on many projects.
