Meet Tom Harrington! The Heroes/Villains Party Caricature Artist
July 27, 2015
We had a chance to speak with Tom Harrington, the cariacature artist that will be at the upcoming Heroes/Villains Party on August 8th from 6:30PM to 8:30PM at the Abington Community Library.
Abington Community Library:Can you tell us a little bit about your artistic background?
Tom Harrington: As a young boy, I watched a lot of Sesame Street and School House Rock! My background is in digital illustration and my style is very cartoon-like. I also have a background in sculpture. I was commissioned to work on a clay-mation tribute video where I got to see both my illustrations and sculptures come to life! That was the best of both worlds!
ACL: Do you focus primarily on caricatures?
TH: I do focus a lot on caricature drawing because it is how I have come to see people. The smile I put on a person’s face when I hand them the drawing is the best feeling in the world!
ACL: Did you always know you wanted to be an artist?
TH: Yes, I have always known I was meant to be an artist. My grandmother taught me how to draw. She never went to school for art. She drew pictures of family and friends with big heads and small bodies that were very caricature-like. I used to draw with her after Sunday Dinner for many hours. She is the single biggest influence in my life.
ACL: Biggest artistic accomplishment?
TH: Last year I did my first book cover for a local author, Jack Carling. It was a book on his career in politics called “Fifty Years a Bureaucrat or How To Really Get The Job Done!” The cover is a political cartoon featuring him. It’s in all of the libraries. I am very proud of that one!
ACL: What do you hope to do in the future?
I want to be a full-time Art Teacher. I love teaching children how to find their own creative voice in art. Children are AMAZING and I am very inspired by their art work! I have some characters for a Children’s Story book that I would like to complete and have published. I would love to work on another clay-animation video as well.
ACL: How can people get in touch with you to seek your services for events or your artwork for purchase?
TH: I can be reached by e-mail: tomh68@verizon.net or by phone: 570-842-8133.
Tom would like to take the artistic gifts that have been given to me by God and his Grandmother and put as many smiles on people’s faces as he can!
We hope you’ll be able to meet Tom at the event!
