Play @ the Library
December 8, 2016
While the Library takes a break from regular Baby, Toddler, & Preschool Storytimes for the month of December, try stopping by a Block Party or Play-K session.
“Play is a child’s work.” Interacting with playscapes with themes like Color/Light, Community, Pets, and Transportation will help prepare your preschooler for kindergarten. The Play-K curriculum supports the Cruise Into Kindergarten initiative and Pennsylvania’s Learning Standards for Early Childhood with the goal of promoting school readiness within the library setting. No registration is required for this program for ages 3-5. The next Play-K session is Tuesday, December 13, at 10:30 AM.
Young children learn best when they are able to construct knowledge through meaningful play. With the materials provided at Block Parties children will build and experiment, manipulate objects, work with others, count and measure, talk about what they are building and build vocabulary; all these activities help children achieve the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for early childhood in not only STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, but also in language and literacy development, physical development and social and emotional development. No registration is required for this program for ages 2-7. The next Block Party is Tuesday, December 20, at 10:30 AM.
