Scranton Area Community Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to Scranton Public Library to help create Teen Learning Lounge

Scranton, PA – The Scranton Public Library celebrates the creation of the Teen Learning Lounge, a new space for teens, with a grand opening on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 6-7:30 p.m. This project was made possible by a Community Needs Grant from the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

The Teen Learning Lounge is a community space with computers, video game consoles, and board games for teens to use for study, entertainment, and time with friends. The space is located in the Technology Lab in the basement of the Lackawanna County Children’s Library at 520 Vine Street, Scranton, PA. The room is open to the public for reservations, in addition to its use for library programs.

The Scranton Public Library will offer free programs for teens ages 12-18 on a weekly basis in the new space, including game nights, craft classes, anime club meetings, and more. The new furniture and games in the renovated space will allow the library to expand its programming and to offer teens access to the room as a study or recreation space with a reservation during library hours.

The Grand Opening on December 5th is open to teens ages 12-18 and their families who wish to come visit the new space. Teens can play games on the library’s Nintendo Switch console or its new Oculus Meta Quest 2, a virtual reality console, or choose from a selection of board games.
