“Summer Quest” to Begin with Music from Around the World
May 22, 2018
Singer Will Visit All Libraries in June
Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou, a performer who has been called “an ambassador of song,” will kick off the Lackawanna County Library System’s summer reading and adventure program, “Summer Quest,” with performances at all county libraries.
Daria’s shows will feature a mix of favorite songs from America and folk music traditions from around the world.
Songs in a variety of languages including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Zulu, German, Quechua Indian and Oneida (Iroquois), will join such familiar fare as “La Bamba” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.
Each show will also introduce her audience to traditional instruments like Buffalo and Pueblo drums, the washboard and hand bells, and others with such exotic names as shékeres, cajón, , guiros, doumbek, and chapchas.
Kids can catch World Music by Daria at any Lackawanna County Library where they can also sign up for all the free activities of “Summer Quest.”
