Free for Children Who Enroll
“Build a Better World,” the summer reading program for children at Lackawanna County libraries reaches into the community with fun things to do and see at popular sites throughout the county.
Take a look at this schedule of events. They are all free for children who sigh up for Summer Reading.
Trains Build a Better World / Friday, July 7 • 1 P.M. / Steamtown National Historic Site
Learn the history of steam railroads and the people who built, repaired and rode them.
Children’s Day at the Catlin House / Saturday, July 22 • Noon to 3 P.M. / Lackawanna Historical Society
Help paint a mural of Slocum Hollow & tour the beautiful Historical Society.
Anthracite in Our World / Wednesday, July 26 • 10 A.M. / Anthracite Heritage Museum
Learn about the valuable resource from our valley that fueled America’s industrial rise.
ARTS Engage! Day / Thursday, August 3 • 10 A.M. to Noon / Electric City Trolley Museum and Station
Free arts activities, free trolley rides and hands on interactive fun.
Hairspray Junior / Friday, August 4 • 1 P.M. / Scranton Cultural Center
Family-friendly musical piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. Admission free for Summer Reading Program participants.
Antarctica: Mystery & Reality / Saturday, August 5 • 1 P.M. / Everhart Museum @ Nay Aug Park
Drive-In Downtown Movies free with your Library Card / Thursdays @ Sunset on Courthouse Square in Scranton / Sponsored By Scranton Tomorrow
Library Night @ PNC Field / Wednesday, Aug. 16
Read 5 books this summer and win a free ticket to a game at PNC Field on Library Night!
Children 4 to 12 years old are eligible. Vouchers available at the Library.
“Build a Better World” runs from June 12th to August 4th. Kids who enroll can attend the programs at any library.
