Take Care of Yourself: Mental Health Awareness Month
May 1, 2023
Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the U.S. since 1949. Each year, millions of adults in America face the reality of living with a mental illness but less than half get treatment. The statistics for youth are not much better with only half of the 1 in 6 who suffer getting treatment. Every year during the month of May, National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Together, we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.
The Library System also has a variety of free resources available to patrons including access to health resources, mental health kits, and a variety of recommended reading.
Remember that you are not alone and that your story is important. No one should ever feel stuck without information, support, or access to help. The Library is here for you.
