Unearth a Story

Unearth a Story

June 1, 2026

The Lackawanna County Library System will host its annual all-ages SummerQuest summer reading challenge beginning on June 22 and running through Aug. 7. This year’s challenge theme, “Unearth a Story,” encourages patrons to dig into a good book, uncover hidden histories, and celebrate stories waiting to be found in their communities. Lackawanna County residents of all ages can explore the joy of discovery through the materials, resources, and programs available at all Lackawanna County Library System locations.

SummerQuest participants can enjoy our collection of books, movies, and games plus a variety of interactive events and exciting activities that can help them unearth something great this summer. During the challenge, patrons can stop by their local library to pick up a log sheet that will help them track their reading progress and offer suggestions for enriching activities themed around exploration, excavation, fossils, and dinosaurs. Children, teens, and adults will have the opportunity to complete an activity log and return it to their library for the chance to win a prize at the conclusion of SummerQuest.

In addition to the reading and activity challenge, all Lackawanna County libraries will host an array of programs for all ages that can help attendees learn how every person has a story to uncover and share. Librarians have prepared book clubs, story times, and crafts that will take place throughout the summer. Our libraries will also partner with the Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science, and Art and local paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka, providing educational, entertaining events for children and teens. More information about these programs and all SummerQuest events can be found by visiting the Library System’s events directory.
