We Need Your Help: Summer Reading Club
February 9, 2017
It’s hard to imagine, but summer will be here before we know it. If you’ve ever been to the library in the summer, you know it’s our busiest time of the year.
Our summer reading clubs offer exciting programs based on a theme. This year’s theme is “Build A Better World,” and we need your help to keep our Summer Reading Club as robust as it’s been in years past.
Funding that we have relied on for many years to provide summer classes for children and teens is unavailable to us this year. This money had allowed us to provide quality programming for the young people we serve during a time of year when they are not in school and at risk of summer slide, the tendency to lose achievement gains made during the previous school year.
Underage Theatre, Cooking Class, Yoga Class, visits from the Zoomobile, Sciencetellers shows, magic and juggling shows, Pop Art for Families, and Super Butterflies are all examples of programs the Library has been able to provide to our community free of charge. These unique and exciting educational experiences spark imagination and creativity.
Would you please consider giving a special donation to the Abington Community Library? If this is not your home library and you typically use another library in Lackawanna County, consider giving to that library as all libraries in Lackawanna County are in the same situation.
Thanks to a private donor who will match up to $500, we have the opportunity to raise up to $1,000 for Summer Reading Club. If you’d like to help us meet that goal, stop by the main circulation desk where cash or check donations will be accepted. Use the labeled container or specify memo ‘Summer Reading Club’ on a check made payable to the Abington Community Library.
Thank you for your support as we remain committed to lifelong learning!
