What Does Being an American Mean to You?

Join us for a free screening of the PBS documentary American Creed on Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 pm.

The American Creed film interviews activists across the nation as they share their stories of what being an American means to them. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer-Prize winning Historian David M. Kennedy sit at the same table to lead the film through its many stories.

These stories include:

Major League Baseball Manager Joe Maddon talks about how his hometown of Hazleton, PA has culturally changed since his grandfather worked in the coal mines.
Deidre Prevett, an elementary school principal in Oklahoma talks about how she makes a positive impact on her students who experience economic and family hardships at home.
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shares her family’s story of living in Birmingham, Alabama.
Sergeant Tegan Griffith, a U.S. Marine, talks about her family’s history of serving in the U.S. Military and the impact 9/11 had on her and the nation as a whole.
Eric Liu, founder of Citizen University, describes the importance of people becoming naturalized citizens and how everyone should remember the citizenship pledge.

After the screening, there will be a Q&A discussion facilitated by Univerity of Scranton Historian Dr. Adam Pratt.
