Celebrate Women’s History Month

Celebrate Women’s History Month

March 3, 2025

During the month of March, we take time to honor, commemorate, and celebrate the vital role women play in history and the world at large. The observance dates back to initial celebrations of International Women’s Day in the early 1900s during the women’s suffrage movement. Today, International Women’s Day—celebrated on March 8—and the monthlong celebration bring issues of gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women into focus. The theme of Women’s History Month 2025 is “Moving Forward Together,” highlighting educators, mentors, and leaders who shape our values and inspire future generations.

Too often, women are left at the margins and their critical contributions to art, science, culture, and progress go unrecognized. At the Library, we encourage you to celebrate women this month. Browse our online catalog and discover the stories of unsung heroes and resilient figures. Attend an event at your local Library that spotlights a local author or enriches the women in your life. Explore eResources that can help you learn more about how crucial women have been in shaping the modern world.
