Writing Classes to Begin
February 11, 2020
Do you dream of becoming an author? Join our writing classes and hone your writing skills under the direction of our experienced writing instructor. Carol King has taught courses in English and Creative Writing at local colleges for over 30 years. She has a master’s degree in creative writing and has also published two books of poetry. We will be offering two different classes; the first is Creative Writing which will be offered Wednesdays from 10 AM to 12 PM starting on March 4th and ending on May 13. Everyone has a head full of story ideas, perhaps even full-fledged stories that have never have actually been put on paper. In this class, you will learn how to overcome the blocks that keep you from turning those ideas into reality. You will also learn how to distill those ideas into stories using description, characterization, dialogue and plotting.
The second class being offered is Memoir/Nonfiction Writing which will be offered Wednesday from 1 PM to 3 PM starting on March 4th and ending on May 13. Students in this class will be mining their own lives or those of family members to turn memories into stories using all the techniques of good fiction writing. We will also discuss the differences between fiction and nonfiction and consider what is necessary to make a personal memoir into a story or book that appeals to a more general audience.
Carol welcomes new students at any time. This class is for adults and you can sign up for one or both classes at the library by calling 570-587-3440.
