Important Updates Coming to Libby & Kanopy

Important Updates Coming to Libby & Kanopy

October 21, 2026

Beginning Monday, November 2, Libby will require your PIN in addition to your library card number. This change will apply when you log into the Libby app using a smart device or when you visit libbyapp.com on a web browser. Your PIN will also be required when you use the Kanopy app or log into their web platform. This update will help keep your account information secure and ensures that we can provide safe access to our digital resources.

Already know your PIN? Simply enter it when prompted and you will be verified and ready to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, and more. Your PIN for Libby and Kanopy will be the same PIN you use to browse our online catalog and place holds at your Library. Your PIN is automatically set to the last 4 digits of the phone number provided at the time you sign up for a Library card but can be customized for an easier login. If you do not know your PIN or would like to change it, visit our “Reset My PIN” or “Email Me My PIN” pages. You can also manually verify your library card on Libby or Kanopy to help this transition run more smoothly.

If you experience issues verifying your account with your PIN, do not delete the Libby App. This will cause you to lose your reading history and any tags you have created. Libby recommends removing your card and then re-adding your card. You may also contact us using our Digital Support form for direct help from a librarian.

In addition to these security changes, Libby has taken steps to moderate AI-generated content that you may see while browsing their app. They have recently introduced new controls to filter search results to exclude machine-written books and non-human narrators, and individual titles will provide disclosures about AI narration and content. Libby has also added an option for readers to report AI-generated content that they believe is not accurately represented. These changes give you the control to choose whether or not you wish to see books created using artificial intelligence tools in your search results and recommendations. Libby’s AI filtering updates are live now in the app and online. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
