March is National Reading Month
March 3, 2025
In Honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March is celebrated as National Reading Month. This observance is a great opportunity to foster a love of books and highlight the importance of reading. Reading is one of the best habits to develop, both for adults and children alike. Even for just a few minutes a day, reading can help strengthen your memory, develop critical thinking skills, and increase your creativity. We often take reading for granted, though. It was not long ago that only society’s elite could read and books as we know them today were prohibitively expensive or hard to find. Reading is a privilege and something we hold dear at the Library. When we read, we gain a greater understanding for the world around us and a larger capacity for empathy.
We are proud to offer thousands of print books at all of our Libraries. Search our online catalog or visit your local Lackawanna County Library System location to search our offerings. We are also proud to provide eBook and eAudiobook options for all patrons to enjoy. Log in to Libby with your library card to enjoy our digital offerings, including magazines and comics. Your library card also grants access to Hoopla, which has a variety of eBooks, eAudiobooks, comics, and more. Whether you like reading on-the-go or the feel of a book in your hands, your Library has plenty of options. Getting started with any of the titles in our collection is as simple as making sure your library card is up to date.
This month, why not set reading goals for yourself to celebrate National Reading Month? Even a page a day will help keep your mind sharp. If you prefer to get together with others to chat about your reads, there are plenty of book clubs to choose from. Visit our events directory and find a group to join at your local Library. We have plenty of reading programs and storytimes for children, too. Help foster a love for reading at a young age and teach a lifelong skill.
We hope you’ll join the Library this National Reading Month and enjoy some great books!
