The Albright Memorial Library building will be closing on November 27, 2017 due to interior renovations. We expect the Library to remain closed through December 31, 2017.
In preparation for the Albright Memorial Library’s 125th anniversary on June 1, 2018, the Library has undergone significant improvements over the last few years. In 2012, we installed an elevator in the Library and completed a total masonry preservation project in 2013/14.
Attention has now shifted to necessary interior upgrades – including new flooring (carpet, vinyl and tile), refinishing a significant portion of the wonderfully crafted woodwork, complete renovation of the public restrooms, a new circulation desk, and additional lighting.
The stripping and refinishing of the woodwork in the Library’s lobby, area as well as renovations to the public restrooms, will make the Library generally uninhabitable for patrons and staff alike.
While the doors to the Albright might be closed, library service will continue to be available. Our Nancy Kay Holmes Branch in Green Ridge will maintain its regular service hours; Library Express Bookstore (located in the Marketplace at Steamtown) will have increased hours; the Bookmobile will make its appointed rounds, and the Lackawanna County Children’s Library will operate as per usual.
A temporary circulation desk will be maintained in the foyer of the Lackawanna County Children’s Library for patrons to return and check out books. Reference services such as printing, faxing, and computers will be in the Community Room and Computer Lab, located in the basement of the Children’s Library. The circulation desk and reference services will follow the Children’s Library’s hours of Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM; Friday and Saturday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; and Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 PM. Patrons can call the Library’s main line 570-348-3000 for questions about these services.
We look forward to reopening the Library’s doors as soon as possible and serving the people of Lackawanna County for another 125 years.
