Lackawanna County Library System

The Scranton Public Library is pleased to announce its selection as a screening site for the prestigious “FILM FORWARD: ADVANCING CULTURAL DIALOGUE” film series.  FILM FORWARD is an international program designed to enhance greater cultural understanding, collaboration and dialogue around the globe by engaging audiences through the exhibition of films, workshops and conversations.  An initiative of the Sundance Institute and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities – in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, FILM FORWARD promotes cultural dialogue through independent documentary and narrative film, using film’s unique ability to tell stories that explore universal themes to ignite meaningful conversations.

All screenings will be held in the library’s Community Room, located in the basement of the Lackawanna County Children’s Library at 520 Vine Street, Scranton. There is no charge and the public is encouraged to attend.

Free screenings and discussions of the thought-provoking films are scheduled as follows:

The World Before Her on Wednesday, April 16^th at 7 pm, moderated by Ms. Sheli McHugh

If You Build It on Thursday, April 17^th at 7 pm, moderated by Ms. Sharon McCrone

Valentine Road on Monday, April 21^st at 7 pm, moderated by Dr. John McNerney

The Rocket on Tuesday, April 22^nd at 7 pm, moderated by Mr. Kevin Norris

Circles on Wednesday, April 23^rd at 7 pm, moderated by Dr. Phil Jenkins

Dancing in Jaffa on Thursday, April 24^th at 7 pm, moderated by Ms. Alicia Grega

April is National Poetry Month and we will be celebrating with two writing centered Maker Mondays.

Zine History and Creation Workshop with Jessica Meoni on Monday, April 7^th at 7 pm.
Zines, stemming from “fanzines” of the early 1960s, have spanned generations in the underground literature, art, and music scenes in various areas of the world. Essentially a handmade magazine, discover the history and future of these publications and learn how to create one yourself with some basic supplies. Come with an idea you’d like to write about – music, travels, recipes, relationships, social issues – anything works!

Poetry Workshop with Scott Thomas on Monday, April 28^th at 7 pm
Poet Scott Thomas will guide you as you take your poem from inspiration to final draft.

Both workshops will be held in the library’s Community Room located in the basement of the Lackawanna County Children’s Library.
