Cruise into Kindergarten Begins Tonight at the Children’s Library

Image may contain: indoorCruise into Kindergarten is for 4 and 5 year olds not in Kindergarten. This programs allows children to “play Kindergarten” using materials from different “playscapes”.Children will practice activities centered around a theme that are aligned with the PA Learning Standards and Kindergarten readiness skills such as using scissors, going over a calendar, imaginative play activities, and taking turns.
Cruise into Kindergarten begins Tuesday, September 3 at 6 PM to 7 PM and runs every Tuesday throughout the school year. The program takes place in  Judy’s Room, our library classroom. Call the library for further details. 570-348-3000 ext 3015

Friends’ Spring Book Sale coming soon!

The Friends’ of the Abington Community Library will hold their spring book sale on Saturday March 30 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. A Preview Sale for Friends’ members will be held on Friday March 29 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. You can become a Friend or renew your membership at the Preview Sale. You won’t want to miss this sale that will feature thousands of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books, DVDs, and CDs with prices ranging from $.25 to $2.00. Interested in joining the Friends’s Advisory Board and helping with their fundraising efforts? Stop by the library and give your contact information to a library staff member.

Second Sunday with Friends: Amazing Birds of Prey

Once again the Friends of the Scranton Public Library are sponsoring this extremely popular family program. Bill Streeter from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center will be showing several of his beautiful birds of prey. Learn about adaptations, the food chain, habits and bird characteristics. A great opportunity for homeschoolers.

Wanted: Singers, Dancers, Comedians, Magicians! for Fringe Festival Open Mic Night

TWEEN OPEN MIC NIGHT

The Lackawanna County Children’s Library will host its premier Scranton Fringe Festival Tween Open Mic Night for teens and kids 8 through 14 on Friday, September 28 @ 6PM. Scranton is a town of great talent and talent which begins with the young! The Children’s Library will showcase the talented young people of Scranton! We welcome all art forms such as music, poetry, spoken word, dance, comedy, and magic – whatever you want to perform. It is our goal to provide a safe and welcoming stage. Whether it is your first time performing in front of people, or you are a seasoned vet, we are here for you! Call the library for more information.

4th of July Fun and Fireworks!

Enjoy some 4th of July fun at the Rotary Club of the Abingtons Annual Fireworks show! The fun starts TUESDAY, July 3 at the Abington Heights Middle School, Clarks Summit (raindate July 4) at 5 pm. There will be lots of food and amusement vendors and the fireworks show will begin at nightfall. Cost: only $5/ vehicle. The Rotary Club asks that attendees be generous and also to park in designated areas only!

Djembe, African Drum Circle@the Children’s Library

Second Sunday with Friends presents Djembe, African Drum Circle. Sponsored through the generosity of the Friends of the Scranton Public  Library.

You’ll be moving and dancing to the beat! with Learn Listen Play, a mobile education program.

Learn about African drumming and play an authentic African djembe!
During the session, children will play hand drums, sing songs, and end the session with a traditional African dance circle. For active families!
