Memoir & Genealogy with Carol King @ Abington Community Library

This class is designed to enable students to transition from the research they have done or will do into their family’s history to creating works of fiction or nonfiction based on that research. Students will look at examples of this type of writing and will learn how to apply the techniques necessary to produce their own works.

Carol King has taught courses in English and Creative Writing at local colleges for over 30 years. She has a master’s degree in creative writing and has also published a book of poetry. For Adults. 

What the Cloud? @ Computer Learning Lab - Basement of the Lackawanna County Children's Library

This class will explain what the cloud is, how it works, and discuss some popular cloud services that are available, including iCloud, Dropbox, and Google Drive.

Class Format: Hands on

Skill Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of computers and keyboarding

One-on-One Senior Computer Class @ Valley Community Library

Are you or someone you know struggling to use a computer?

For adults 55 and older, these computer classes are designed for those who have no previous experience with computers or those who may just need some extra help.

Our instructor will help you from the very beginning of using the mouse and learning the parts of a computer all the way to surfing the Web, email, printing, and using social media websites. This is a one-on-one class lasting 1/2 hour. Each class is different because it is designed specifically to fit your needs.

Class times are Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.

You must make an appointment by visiting or calling the library.

Resume & Job Search Help @ Computer Learning Lab-Basement of the Lackawanna County Childrens' Library

This class is taught in 2 parts; The first half hour is spent giving instruction on creating resumes, cover letters, or interview preparation. The remaining 90 minutes is open to receive help searching/applying for jobs online.

Crazy 8’s Math Club @ Nancy Kay Holmes Library

About this event: Join us for hands-on activities that get kids fired up about math! Crazy 8’s Math Club is designed to help promote math and logic skills in your child, while focusing on core concepts.

Designed for: Children, ages six to nine. This is an “on my own” program.

Paws to Read @ Nancy Kay Holmes Library

About this event: Certified Therapy Dogs will be visiting the Library to hear children read! The goal of this program is to create a relaxed atmosphere, allowing children to practice the skill of reading.  This program will help your child build confidence reading in front of peers, improve oral reading skills, and associate reading with a positive experience.

Designed for: Children, ages three and up.

Adult Craft Series: River Rock Art @ Valley Community Library

Create art with river rocks and other natural materials! 

In celebration of the Lackawanna River Corridor Association’s 30th anniversary, the Valley Community Library is proud to offer this special river themed event.
