Dorflinger Factory Museum

T_Dorflinger-Glass-Museum-063Before summer is over or even early this fall, you must consider a road trip to White Mills, PA. What’s in White Mills you ask? There you can find the newly converted Dorflinger glassworks factory. The property was purchased by James and Betty Asselstine and they have converted it into a unique museum with Dorflinger artifacts and glassware. Lovingly filled with treasures, during a visit there you will be transported into another century, where craftsmen created glass that ranged from the simple to the sublime. The museum is located at 8 Elizabeth St., White Mills, PA and the phone for hours of operation is (570) 253-0220.

You may also check out several items about Dorflinger glass that are available right here at the Abington Community Library:

  1. Dorflinger, America’s finest glass, 1852-1921 / John Quentin Feller with an introduction by Isabel Lambert Dorflinger.
  2. Dorflinger glass/ A catalog of patterns published by the American Cut Glass Association in collaboration with the Dorflinger Glass Museum and Kurt A. Reed, curator, Dorflinger Factory Museum White Mills, PA and Lake Ariel, PA and the Leonard S. and Juliette K. Rakow Research Library, the Corning Museum of Glass Corning, NY.
  3. Sand bubbles [videorecording] : C. Dorflinger & Sons glass factory. Louis J. Dorflinger, son of the founder of Dorflinger Glass Works, wrote in his diary on Monday, September 25, 1916 that three gentlemen from the Paramount Picture Company came to White Mills, Pennsylvania to ‘take pictures’ of the glass house and shops and left the next day. Lost for 95 years, Milestone discovered the film and had this short, silent film restored in 2011.
