In partnership with the Waverly Community House, take the Destination Freedom Walking Tour and learn about the rich history of the Underground Railroad Movement in the Northeast Pennsylvania region. Participants will view sites of significance and learn more about the area residents who once aided former slaves on their journey towards freedom.

Participants will get a sneak peek at the newly created “Destination Freedom Special Exhibitions Gallery” with items on loan from Glynis Johns, Black Scranton Project, Lackawanna Historical Society, and more.

Tour Facilitator: EJ Murphy is an educator and historian from Scranton, Pennsylvania. He is the Project Coordinator for the Waverly Community House’s Destination Freedom: Underground Railroad Walking Tour of Waverly program and teaches social studies at the Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligence Charter School in Scranton.

This Tour is supported by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley National State and Heritage Area as well as the PA Department of Conservation and National Resources and the National Park Service.
