Friends of the Scranton Public Library Bus Trip

The Friends of the Scranton Public Library invite you to an exciting bus trip to the American Museum of Natural History, New York.

Registration fee: $85.00 for members of the Friends | $90.00 for guests | Children 3 to 12 $75.00

Price Includes: Bus transportation & museum admission. Lunch is on your own. The bus will stop at a restaurant in NJ on the way home for dinner, but it is not included in the registration fee.

Library Departure: 8:00 AM | Returns to Scranton: 8:00 PM

Children aged 3-12 can explore kid-friendly exhibits featuring dinosaur bone excavation, exotic animals, children’s books, and enlarged insect simulations like a dog-sized millipede and spiders.

Museum Information:

• Planetarium “Worlds Beyond Earth”: Space Show – 30 minutes
• Giant Screen – Blue Whales – 45 minutes.
• Exhibits: The Hall of Dinosaurs; Hall of Gems and Minerals; Hall of North American Mammals; Hall of Human Origins; Hall of Meteorites; Hall of the Universe; Birds of the World; Asian Mammals, African and Asian Peoples.

• Freely enter and exit the museum and take a stroll around Central Park.
• The museum complex comprises 20 interconnected buildings housing 45 permanent exhibition halls. The Hayden Planetarium, one of the world’s largest, forms part of the museum; it has a 10,000-volume library on astronomy and a 75-foot diameter sky theater plus the Rose Center. The museum collections contain about 35 million specimens of plants, animals, fungi, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, human remains, and human cultural artifacts.
• Highlights: Marvel at the world’s largest dinosaur fossil collection. Uncover the mysteries of the cosmos at the planetarium. Learn about other cultures from around the globe through interactive exhibits. Immerse yourself in the brand new state-of-the-art Gilder Center.
• A very significant positive is that there are many fun exhibitions just for kids. Consequently, your children would be very welcome to join us.
• One section has a blown-up simulation of insects, showing a dog-sized millipede, spider, and other buggers. It’s a pretty safe bet the kids will go crazy (in a good way).
• The Discovery Room on the first floor is one of those special exhibits. Inside, all of the exhibits are presented in a way that even the youngest children can understand. In this hands-on mini museum, kids dig for dinosaur bones, search for exotic animals in the big baobab tree, or sit down and read a children’s book that delves into the subject of an exhibit. There are also live animals and a large cabinet stuffed with items that kids tend to love, such as shells, feathers, bones, and unique rocks worthy of inspection.
