What is Tech Neck?

Image result for what is tech neck

Significant advances in technology, specifically mobile phones, tablets and computers, have led to a decline in good posture and an increase in neck and back pain. When forward head and rounded shoulder posture is maintained for extended periods of time, many painful issues arise such as neck pain and stiffness, pain radiating to one side of your neck, shoulder blade or arm, or weakness or numbness in your arm or hand. Various interventions will be discussed to find relief from this condition at the Tech Neck Workshop. A Physical Therapist will be available to answer your questions. This event is open to adults, and teens may sign up with a parent.  Join us on Wednesday, November 6, from 7:00-8:00 PM at the Abington Community Library. Call 570-587-3440 to register.

Celebrate Our Friends

This week is National Friends of Libraries Week. We are so grateful for the support of the Friends of the Abington Community Library. They organize two big book sales each year to raise money for the Library, as well as sponsor all kinds of Library materials and programming.

This past summer, the Friends of the ACL sponsored two Zoomobile visits, two Skin & Scales reptile shows, and a special Astronomy for Everyone presentation. These inter-generational events were only made possible by the generous support of our Friends. The Friends have also sponsored material such as a train table for the children’s library, a middle school seating area, new dvd cases and shelving, and a whiteboard for the young adult area.

If you would like to join the Friends of the ACL, simply ask Library staff for a membership form. Membership is good for one year and includes community events like Chips, Dips, & Sips plus early admittance to the book sales. Payment is $10 per person or $15 per family.

Annual Fund Drive

Support of the  Abington Community Library is vital to furthering our  mission of providing opportunities for patrons to read, learn, and connect with the information and people that make this Library special. Through your tax-deductible contribution, you make this possible.

Despite ongoing funding concerns at the state level, our library continues to thrive thanks to the generous support of patrons and community members like you. Here are some of the ways in which we serve you and your community:

  • As one of 30,000 people in our community, you help to account for 700,000 visits each year;
  • If you have school students in your family or are a teacher, you receive direct support, something no longer available in many in-school libraries;
  • You, your children, and grandchildren have the opportunity to attend dozens of classes, offering creative and collaborative experiences that foster a life-long love of reading, learning, and community involvement;
  • You know us as a welcoming space for a diverse range of needs and interests, including support groups, book clubs, knitting circles, game clubs, and community service projects;
  • You know we also host numerous education and informational opportunities on topics such as career planning, tax preparation, financial planning, cultural awareness, and more.

Thanks to your support, we continue to expand our collection and increase the number and diversity of our programs. By utilizing our services and through your ongoing  financial support, you are what makes our community so special.

Our Annual Fund Drive begins November 2. If you are able to make a donation of any amount, simply drop it off at the circulation desk with your contact information or mail it to the Abington Community Library, attn: AFD, 1200 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit PA 18411. As always, your support is greatly appreciated!
