The Friends of the Scranton Public Library will be holding a Sidewalk Book Sale:

Scranton Public Library Adds Second Free Screening of Nomadland Saturday, May 22

Scranton Public Library will be hosting two free screenings of Nomadland, the 2021 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Best Actress (Frances McDormand) and Best Director (Chloé Zhao).

The first screening will be held Saturday, May 22nd at 2 PM; the second screening will be held Wednesday, May 26th at 2 PM.

Seating is limited to 10 people each screening. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Three 2021 Oscar Winners – Including Best Picture Nomadland – To Screen at Scranton Public Library in May

May’s Wednesday Movie Matinees at Scranton Public Library will feature three 2021 Academy Award winners, including Best Picture winner Nomadland (Wednesday, May 26th).

All movie matinees screen at 2 PM and are free with your library card.  Seating is limited to 10 people for all screenings.  Masks, social distancing, and registration are required.

Wednesday Movie Matinees Return to Scranton Public Library March 17th

Exciting news!

Starting March 17th, Wednesday Movie Matinees will be returning to Scranton Public Library in a safer, socially distanced way.

Films will screen Wednesdays at 2 PM in the Henkelman Room, located on the 2nd floor of Scranton Public Library.

Masks and social distancing will be required. Seating will be strictly limited to 10 people, and reservations will be required.

Winter Loan Bundles @ The Albright Memorial Library

Winter Loan Bundles @ The Albright Memorial Library

We know that snowy weather and other concerns may prevent you from visiting the library in the next few weeks.

The Scranton Public Library is now offering a Winter Loan Program at the Albright Memorial Library.  From November 2020-February 2021 borrow 10 or more items and your materials will not be due back for 6 weeks. Renewals may be possible but are not guaranteed.  Excluded from the Winter Loan Program are popular titles on hold and materials on the New and Bestseller displays.

Personalized bundles, a minimum of 5 items, are available by filling out a Winter Loan Bundle Request. Complete the form below and we’ll select materials based on your interest. Once the form has been completed, a librarian will select the materials for you and will let you know when they are ready. You can pick up at the library or via our curbside service.

Scranton Public Library to Present Two Free Screenings of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Wednesday, March 11th

Scranton Public Library will be presenting two free screenings of the Oscar-nominated film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood on Wednesday, March 11th at 2 PM and 6:30 PM.  The screenings will be held in the Henkelman Room, located on the second floor of the library, which is handicapped accessible.

Both screenings are free with your library card, and light snacks will be provided to all those who attend either screening.

Registration is suggested but not required to attend.

Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, “The Americans”) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Scranton Public Library to Present Two Free Screenings of The Addams Family Wednesday, February 19th

Scranton Public Library will be presenting two free screenings – one afternoon matinee and one evening screening – of the 2019 animated hit The Addams Family, featuring the voices of Oscar Issac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Allison Janney, Bette Midler, and Snoop Dogg as Cousin It.

The Addams Family will be presented at both 2 PM and 6:30 PM in the Henkelman Room, located on the second floor of the library.

Both screenings are free with your library card, and light snacks will be provided to all those who attend either screening.

In this computer-animated comedy,the eccentrically macabre Addams Family moves to a bland suburb, where Wednesday Addams’ friendship with the daughter of a hostile and conformist local reality show host exacerbates conflict between the families.

Registration is suggested but not required to attend.

Holiday Films To Screen at Scranton Public Library Wednesday, December 18th

Scranton Public Library wants to get you into the holiday spirit with a trio of festive movies on Wednesday, December 18th in the Henkelman Room, located on the 2nd floor of the library.

At 2 PM, we will be screening a double feature of two classic Christmas specials–1962’s Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, followed by 1977’s Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas.

At 6:30 PM, our Classic Movie Night will feature 1949’s Come to the Stable, starring Loretta Young, Celeste Holm, and Elsa Lanchester.

Both screenings are free with your library card, and light snacks will be provided.
