Summer 2014 brings many artistic opportunities for teens at Abington Community Library. We’ve hosted Exercise for the Right Side of Your Brain: Fun with Food, DIY for Teens: Zentangle, and Acrylic Painting; they’re not over yet!

More Languages Added to Mango

Acrylic Art Class Update

The acrylic art class schedule for Wednesday, July 9th has been cancelled.

The acrylic art class scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th @ 6-8 PM will be expanded to include Grades 4-6, Grades 7-12, and adults.

You will learn the basics of acrylic paint, and create your own unique work of art using acrylic paints. Registration is required. Please stop by the library or give us a call (570-282-4281) to register.

Intro to LEGO Robotics and Scranton Mini Maker Faire Meet and Greet!

Join us on Monday, July 14th at 7 pm as we explore the library’s LEGO Robotics kit for our July session of Maker Monday.  Learn how to build and program a LEGO Mindstorm NXT robot.  This program is for anyone interested ages 12 and up. Sign up now!

We will be meeting in the Computer Learning Lab located in the basement of the Lackawanna County Children’s Library at 520 Vine Street.

The folks from the Scranton Mini Maker Faire will be joining us for a meet and greet! Get more information about the upcoming Faire and ask questions!

Minute to Win It Games!

This past Saturday, teens from all Lackawanna County Libraries met at Library Express to participate in Minute to Win It Games!

Library Express was set up with stations hosted by Young Adult Librarians from each library.



Teens had the opportunity to play several games at each station and earn tickets for winning games.

In the end, teens used those tickets to enter a raffle where they could win one of many prizes!

RiverFest here we come!

Stop by and visit the Lackawanna County Children’s Library  and the Bookmobile staff at RiverFest this Saturday, May 31st from noon to 4 pm! We’ll have crafts, a storywalk and fun!

The Lackawanna River Corridor Association (LRCA) will host RiverFest 2014 on Saturday May 31, 2014.  This Regional Rite of Spring is an event that celebrates the Lackawanna River and the communities in its Watershed.  A full day of river activities: the Canoe-A-Thon, the Duck-A-Thon and the River Regatta; music: regional bands provide the entertainment; educational and environmental displays; food and fun activities for all ages!  Experienced canoeists, kayakers and casual paddlers, will be out on the Lackawanna River at 10:00AM arriving at the RiverFest Finish Line—West Olive Street near Scranton High School.  Live music starts at noon.  Resident and businesses are encouraged to be part of the River Regatta.  This fun event involves creativity, imagination, lunacy and zaniness!!!  Good food and fun for the whole family will be available all day.  Admission is free for Finish Line activities located at the Scranton Riverwalk off Olive Street.  For more information to participate in the paddle or the River Regatta, please call the LRCA at 570-347-6311.
